Dust and Dragons

Fussing about in the dust of your daily activities, it’s hard to anticipate dragons that lie just ahead of you. Even as you read this, your day’s trivia blocks your view of perspective-altering (if not life-altering) changes waiting for you in your near future. Can you throw off that dust, that useless activity, and not only recognize what is about to happen to you, but embrace it?

Adagio for Su Tung-p’o

Could a Chinese poet who lived a thousand years ago have understood and mastered the problems of isolation, shallowness, violence, and indifference of the 21st Century? Yes. And he found that mastery within himself, within his ability to create his own reality, and within his lifelong use of imagination and reflection to achieve contentment.

War Poet

You may wish for a family and friendship, a satisfying career, good health, and caring relationships, but war doesn’t care. Once it locates you, it will get your attention and keep it. And you may wish for power, wealth, fame, respect, and achievement, but love doesn’t care. Once it locates you, it will get your attention and keep it. War and love: you’d be surprised at how much they have in common.
